Upcoming Mixes

While so many are becoming convinced that the mix CD will soon die, I, a die hard proponent of mix CDs, can only see an optimistic future. Last year was full of amazing mixes, and this year looks to be the same. Already, M.A.N.D.Y.'s Fabric 38 has come out, which follows in the footsteps of the last 4 Fabrics in that it is a fantastic mix by some of my favorite DJs. In short, if you liked from Ellen Allien's Fabric on, you will love it.

Speaking of Ellen Allien and Fabric, three mixes are coming up which look extremely promising.

One is Fabric 39 by Robert Hood. In case you are unfamiliar with him, he is credited as one of the great early producers to really develop minimal techno with Jeff Mills and others in Detroit. As more of a producer, his Fabric is naturally full of his own productions and remixes, including "Elements" throughout, which are best described as Mr Hood himself: "The live elements are just tracks or patterns, rhythm patterns that will be exclusive to the CD."

Some absolutely top class tracks there, including Hood's own "And then We Planned Our Escape" which, if you haven't heard, is a perfect slice of dubby, minimal techno.

This brings us to another new mix, the new installment of BPitch Control's Boogybytes series by Ellen Allien.

Also looks top class, with some excellent tracks by Melchior, Villalobos, and Sasha Funke's newest classic, "Double Checked". Ellen always knows how to create a certain mood with her mixes, and this looks like a mix that may rank as her best. We'll see when it comes out in march, however.

While not exactly DJs, this tracklist tells me that they know what they're doing. So we have three great series keeping up the steady and excellent output. I'd say, before any reviews, that these three are most certainly buy on sight.
